Leather jackets on a budget
A list of brands that offer great leather jackets for the low, and a list of second-hand jackets for under $200.
I haven’t had a leather jacket for years so it’s something I’ve been wanting to add to my outerwear rotation this season. It all started when I was reminded of the Stone Island + Supreme collaboration from FW23. It had this leather jacket with a removable nylon hood that I thought was extremely fresh—but the current resell prices are not making them that appetizing.
In general, new leather is always at least $800+, and while there are great designs out there, I simply don’t feel like paying that much for a jacket right now. So I did what any normal person would do—go vintage.
In today’s newsletter I’ll be sharing what brands you should keep in mind if you’re looking for leather jackets for under $200, and a list of second-hand picks that you can buy right now. Most of the options are going for a steal. We’re talking jackets as low as $70.
During my search I ended up finding an older Avirex brown leather A-2 bomber that was only $200. A much more appealing price for leather. It obviously has some wear and tear, but that’s totally ok for a leather jacket. It’s broken in, has some history, but most importantly, it was affordable. I’m still waiting for it in the mail, so hopefully I can update you with some proper photos in the coming weeks.
BRANDS TO KEEP IN MIND
If you got money for a brand new leather jacket then by all means, you should ball out. There are a lot of amazing options out there, but if you’re like me and want to save some money, then going vintage is going to be your best option.
Brands like Avirex, Schott, Armani Jeans, Andre, and one of my favorites, US Wings—a brand that has so many great leathers for around $100—these are all great options though, they offer different styles and could be scooped on eBay for around $200 or less. Obviously the prices vary, but you can pay a little extra for less worn and more rare styles. I think the most important thing when buying a leather jacket is making sure the sizing is correct for you. Definitely recommend spending some time and figuring out the measurements that you’re comfortable with and matching that with your next purchase. These vintage leathers come in all shapes in sizes so make sure you remember that.
THE LIST
While I was on a hunt for my leather jacket I ended up gathering dozens of other great leather options that I’m going to share with you today. A bunch of them are under $150, which is an absolute steal for a jacket. Enjoy:
