The Knitwear Report
Saying no to synthetic fibers, why investing in a higher quality knit now will pay dividends later, and where to buy knitwear for the everyday occasion.
Hello. Quick update, the SNLetter has its own .com address. Type in streetnightlive.com into your favorite browser, and the rest should be history—not sure why I haven’t set up a custom domain sooner but whatever.
At the beginning of every new year I like to start things off by doing a full wardrobe audit. This process usually ends up making me realize that I hate everything I own, which then makes me want to start my entire wardrobe from scratch. More on that later.
While I was doing said audit, I came to the realization that I don’t really have any good knitwear in my rotation. Not sure how that happened, but I need to update my knitwear rotation immediately. To fix this issue I went on a knitwear hunt and have returned with an array of recommendations that should make my everyone’s life cozy again
In today’s letter: why spending more money on a good knit today will make you spend less later, knits for every occasion, brands to keep in mind when shopping for knitwear, where I’m buying budget-friendly and on-sale knitwear today, and more.
Having the opportunity to experience a knit that gives off a natural feeling of luxury, one that’s soft and comfortable, but most importantly, is just a lot of fun to wear, is something that everyone deserves to experience.
A good quality knit is probably one of the easiest ways to truly understand what natural fabrics could feel like on your body, and because of that, it requires you to invest your money properly.
I’m not here to bore you with the classic topic on how everything is becoming more expensive while the quality is going down simultaneously. At this point we’ve all heard it, and it is true. Unfortunately, knits are one item that has been suffering from this issue. It’s hard not to notice new knits starting to use more and more synthetic fiber blends while the prices continue to rise.
While I do believe that synthetic is essential in some specific clothing styles, knits are one of those things that should always be made out of natural fibers. It’s the only answer. With that being said, a knit made out of a good quality wool does cost money. But it is an investment that you should make now because it will pay dividends later—you want a knit that’s going to last, so you might as well get one that you’re excited to wear down the road.
A knit with natural fibers is an experience you cannot replicate with a synthetic one, and when you get to experience a truly good knit, you simply can never go back. Also these knits will last you longer and will continue to get better with age thanks to their natural properties.
Today’s recommendations for knitwear are all made out fibers like lambswool, cashmere, and other great wools. These recommendations vary in price but all serve their own unique purpose in style. A few of today’s recommendations will also be on sale, which is always a nice bonus. I included options that are geared towards everyday life, options ideal for the office, knits to wear on a night out, and funky sweaters for those who are looking for more of a statement piece.
MANRESA
The Crawford Sweater is great for those who are looking for a good weighted knit. The sheep wool is all about durability and warmth, while the raglan sleeves give you effortless mobility in the arms. Tight neckline is essential for me so this was a nice detail I didn’t have to overthink.
What I like about this one is the overall simplicity. It makes for a perfect everyday sweater that can easily be worn to the office or a dinner, mixinging in within your wardrobe with ease. Versatility, baby.
Comes in two colors with sizes available up to XXL. I’d say go with your true size, they are pretty roomy.
