It's time to put away our double knee pants and look into the future
Welcome to the first edition of The Pants Probe™ (trademark pending)!!!
I wanted to take this time to say thank you to everyone who’s been reading so far, and to all the future readers of the SNLetter (I still haven’t decided if I like this… I am leaning towards no, but maybe?). Also big thank you to everyone in the dm’s who have voiced their kind words in regards to this newsletter, I love them all—even though it might take me a day or two to get back to you:
Pants have been on my mind lately, and truth be told, I am tired of seeing double knees everywhere. (Listen, there’s actually no problem of owning a pair of double knee pants because you should do as you see fit, and my opinion doesn’t actually matter. I’m just tired of seeing the same exact outfit, you know which one I am talking about; the double knee, new balance 550, and tote bag combo.) I decided that this would be a perfect opportunity to look at different types of pants that have been on my radar recently.
Pants are always a fun topic for me because I feel like it’s one of those items that you can never have enough of in your closet. My bottoms collection is much larger than the rest of my clothes and seems like I can’t stop adding to the continuously growing pile.
PATTERNS PATTERNS PATTERNS
I really felt inspired seeing this fit of Tyler’s because it reminded me of the past, which was filled with crazy pattern pants, and I kind of miss it. (Yes, we can make the argument that crazy pattern pants are still very much alive, but the vibe that was going on in 2014 is just isn’t what it used to be). I’ll be honest, I usually skip crazy pattern pants because I am boring and picky, but I am hoping to change that in the new year.
I’m a huge fan of these pants by The Divinities. The execution feels perfect to me because while the pattern itself is very intricate, from afar it almost looks like a sort of camo, which I really dig. OH! SO YOU THINK I HAVE MONEY?
Look, I know that some pants are better than others—not to put down other pants because all pants are great and deserve their moment in the limelight—but choosing “better” comes with a much higher price tag, like these pants by Noah.
If you’ve been following Noah for a bit now, you might think these pants look familiar, and that’s because you’re right. A very similar version was created by Noah in 2017, and I am sad to report that I ended up sleeping through the drop. Trying to find a pair of the older version could be difficult, but they do pop up once in a while for well under retail.
Noah offers an array of different styles that is worth checking out. If you’re looking at a pair of pleated cords but don’t want to break the bank, then I suggest visiting your local thrift. The amount of nice pleated cords that are being donated by the elder community (shout out to our grandfathers) will leave you busy rummaging through the bins for days.
THE BAGGIER THE BETTER
I know some of you might be on the fence when it comes to baggy bottoms, and that’s ok! If you’re wearing a more straight, tapered look, I am here with you, but it’s always good to have options when it comes to pants. (Sometimes I don’t want to wear baggy, but sometimes I do, so it’s always important to have both in the rotation in case you need to mix it up).
I’ve been following 194 Local for a moment now, and can’t wait to visit the physical store in London one day. Until then, I will be refreshing the web store in hopes of scoring any pair of pants they put on sale. (To me every pair of pants they post seems like the best fitting pants I’ve seen). Their curation and styling seem to be locked in because every pant fits perfectly:
PAINT ME LIKE ONE OF YOUR STREETWEAR GIRLS
I don’t care who you are, you should own at least one pair of canvas pants. They go with anything, are comfortable, have a little bit more character than most basic pants, and could last you a lifetime without going out of style. You can pretty much get canvas pants from every brand now, but these specific ones from paa are the ones you should be aware of.
If you’re shopping for something more unique, I would suggest checking out their Utility Pant. I wish the belt loops were a different style, but it’s not a deal-breaker.
I NEED INSPIRATION
I’m going to share with you an account you may or may not already know of—this account is special because I always find inspiration, not just in pants but in entire outfits as a whole. LANTIKI is my go-to Instagram account when I need a refreshe. All the pieces showcased on their instagram are available on their website, which is great if you need to buy an entire look without going to different places.
YOU PROBABLY ALREADY KNOW
If you’re an active reader of the twitter account, then you already know my love for Stussy. I don’t really need to explain myself here because you probably already know what I am about to say. (it’s nothing but praise)
I will say this, there is a rather good sale going on right now that features a lot of funky patterned pants with a mix of basics. Definitely worth checking out, especially if you haven’t tried anything from Stussy yet.
PANTS FOR LATER
This one is for my #skatetwitter community, a group of people who seemed to be obsessed with pants as much as I am! Always do what you should do (always) is a new-ish (founded in 2019) skate and surf brand that has been on my radar for a little bit now.
Their designs are simple, and their bottoms look really cozy. (sometimes I just need pants to be really simple!). Unfortunately, a lot of styles are sold out—but check out their stockist section for more options—and better follow now to have the knowledge for future drops later because their stuff does not sit.

I can’t get with the baggy pants wave tho, I’m short and stout so I live and die by the taper.
