Japan is one of the best places for shopping, and there’s no denying that. Period. While many of my favorite brands have their flagships scattered across Tokyo, I find the best shopping to be in highly curated boutiques that focus on vintage and archival clothing.

Unless you have someone giving you these recommendations, finding these stores on your own is not easy. Most of the time I found myself simply walking around the city aimlessly, stumbling upon a random store that doesn’t even show up on my maps. This is where I ended up finding some of the best clothing and objects.

My current shopping guide is over 150 stores, mostly scattered across Tokyo and Osaka featuring flagships, specality boutiques, and rare book stores—you can check out the guide here.

I’ve also created a list of places to eat, cafes, listening rooms, bars, and stuff in between that you can access at the bottom of today’s letter.

I’m just about done my second trip of the year, and I’ve added dozens of new stores to my list. My goal this trip was to find highly curated vintage shops, so I ended up doing just that.

In today’s newsletter, I’ve curated a list of dozens of vintage boutiques you can add to your next trip to Japan. These stores offer everything between rare military garments, vintage classics and archival designer. For example, I found a store that specializes in only blank white t-shirts—crazy! You’ll also be able to access today’s list through Google Maps where you can sync it directly to your phone for an even easier shopping experience.

The Shopping Guide series is an exclusive perk for all paid subscribers. A lot of time and research goes into creating these lists. Support my work and access shopping guides around the world by becoming a paid subscriber today.

Every store highlighted below will be available directly on my Google Maps list, which you can find at the bottom of today’s letter.

BLACX BOX

Blacx Box in Sendagaya is an absolute must stop. Aside from finding rare items like the unofficial Supreme Louis Vuitton monogram rips and crazy Engineered Levi’s garments, this 5-story store has a great selection of vintage, collections from new brands, a section for rare books and even a collection of old fabrics from brands like Chanel.

Located in 2 Chome-2-7 Sendagaya, Shibuya, Tokyo 151-0051.
