What pants I'm wearing this fall
A pair of jeans I can't stop wearing, a brand making great denim for under $150, what styles I'll be adding to my rotation this season, and more.
September has landed, it’s getting cool again, and that means I can finally start shifting my focus on acquiring some new pants for the season. A lot of options ahead of us, and with prices being at an all time high these days, it’s important to make the right purchase that’s worth your money.
We’re talking pants in today’s newsletter: I’ll share a pair of jeans I haven’t stopped wearing for years and why you should grab a pair next time they drop, what styles I’ll be adding to my personal rotation this fall, a made in the USA brand making great denim for under $150, and brands you should know for affordable, good quality pants.
A while ago I wrote about the The Golden Pair of Pants theory, which is basically something you experience once you find that perfect pair of pants that works for you. They fit perfectly off the rack and look great with any shoe. They become your go-to pants that work with any outfit. They’re perfect.
But sometimes a refresh is good because a point comes where you feel the need for something new. Don’t get me wrong, if you do find that perfect pair of pants, never let them go, but it’s good to put them away sometimes. This way you can bring them back into the rotation in a new and exciting way.
My current Golden Pants are a pair of the Saph five pocket denim from 18 East. It’s a style they’ve had for a few years now, with new versions dropping every so often. If you’re an avid reader of the SNLetter then you’ll probably recognize them—they are jeans that I’ve written about in the past, and I’m still having just as much wearing them today. The 12 ounce raw denim was thin to begin with, but has aged beautifully, creating an extremely soft denim that flows so easily with each move. They are also very lightweight with great stretchability that allows me to move in all sorts of ways with ease.

I’d love to see 18 East re-release these because I think more people should get a chance to experience them. You can probably try your luck and get these through grailed or eBay. I’d say that going with your true size is a good option here. They do have a decently long high-rise, which gives them a bit more bagginess around the upper thigh area—something I’ve been enjoying a lot lately.
In general, I find that 18 East definitely makes some of the best pants for the price right now. The prices range between $175-$230, which in today’s market is a pretty good price for a new pair of quality pants. It also helps that they are located in the states, which helps minimize shipping costs.

Now, I definitely won’t be replacing my Saph 5-pockets any time soon, but it’s definitely time to add a couple of new styles to the daily rotation. I recently ordered a pair of the Supreme Baggy Jeans because the truth is, Supreme has always made great denim for a reasonable price. The rise is definitely much lower on these, so I am interested to see how switching up the fit is going to go for me—I got used to that high-rise from the Saph denim.
I’m also waiting on a pair of the MP-108 Utility Pants in olive from Earth\Studies in the mail. I wrote about them in a recent What’s In My Shopping Cart newsletter, and since then have made the decision to dive feet first. Anyway, really excited about these ones. Will hopefully give you a proper review soon!
Earth\Studies specializes in functionality through technical fabrics to create garments that focus on your environment. Wear these in the wilderness just as easily as you would in the city.
Stan Ray is sleeper brand in my opinion. They’ve been making durable workwear since the 70s out of Texas. They’ve spent time perfecting their craft and that’s something you can see in the garments Stan Ray creates.
Denim is their strong suit, so you’re going to have a lot of options to pick from. Stan Ray makes sizes between 26” all the way up to 38” waist—which is always a great bonus. They are also priced for around $100-$150, which is a deal that you almost can’t refuse.
